Figures of Speech

 A figure of speech is a word or phrase that has a separate meaning from its actual (literal) meaning. The author often uses a figure of speech in writing to make it beautiful and interesting.   The figure of speech presents ordinary things in new or unusual way. 

 • Simile, metaphor, and onomatopoeia are some of the types of figures of speech.

Select and develop content and use register and language appropriate to genre, purpose and audience to practice writing skills.

Objectives:

  •   Define figure of speech.  
  •  Identify figure of speech in the sentences.
